Candia is located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. It is located between the New Hampshire central corridor and the seacoast and is near the city of Portsmouth. Residents can enjoy the nearby beaches at Wallis Sands, Ordiorne Point, the White Mountains and Great Bay.
Two state highways run through the town: Route 43 travels through the Candia Four Corners to the Deerfield town line. Route 27 travels from the Hooksett town line through the Candia Four Corners to the Raymond town line. Route 101 also runs through the southern part of town.
Candia is home to Candia Vineyards, Liquid Planet (a water park) and Charmingfare Farm. It is also home to the Fitts Museum, which is located in the historic center of the town. The building was originally a one room home, and a federal-style section was added to the front in 1820. The home was purchased by the Rev. James Hill Fitts in 1882, who established a museum there with his brother in 1885. The Fitts family donated the building to the town in 1901.
According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Candia’s population at the time was 3,911 residents. This included 1,359 households, 1,108 families and 1,359 homes. The average family size was 3.14 and the average household size was 2.88.
