Hudson, NH
Hudson, New Hampshire is a bedroom community located in Hillsborough County. It is situated on the east bank of the Merrimack River, across from Nashua. Hudson is just 22 miles from Manchester and 36 miles from Boston, and is part of the Greater Boston metro area.
Hudson is home to two historic town centers, Hudson Village and Hudson Center. Hudson Village is home to the libraries, original schools and town government. Hudson Center was home to two historic landmarks; Benson’s Wild Animal Farm, which was closed in the 1980’s, and Thompson’s Market which was closed and then sold in 2002. A cemetery and an old school house, which are now housing, are also found in Hudson Center.
Hudson is home to two small lakes, Robinson Pond and Otternic Pond. It is also home to Hills Memorial Library, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hudson is the home of New Hampshire’s School Administrative Unit #81.
The Town Historical Society hosts Hudson’s annual Old Home Days. It is located on the property that was once the Hills House, which was the Alfred and Virginia Hills Family home.
According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Hudson’s population at the time was 22,928 people. This included 8,034 households and 6,258 families. The average family size was 3.17 and the average household size was 2.83. Hudson, New Hampshire is comprised of 28.3 square miles of land and 0.8 square miles of water.
